Wow has summer been flying by! I hope you’ve had a great summer break and are ready to get back to work so we can have a great marching season. I’m looking forward to a great year. We will start full band rehearsals on Monday, August 3 at 8:00 AM. Rehearsals will be 8:00 AM to Noon and 1:00 PM to 3:00 all week. We will work marching fundamentals from 8 to noon, then take a break for lunch and work on music from 1:00 to 3:00. In addition, percussionists will rehearse from 10:00 AM to Noon July 27 through 31. Some things to consider bringing:
Sunscreen
Sunglasses
Shoes (NOT sandals)
Lyre (look at links on band website for places to buy)
Reeds/grease/oil/other supplies
PENCIL
SOME KIND OF WATER BOTTLE
I would also recommend you start preparing now. Pull your instrument out, and at least blow the dust off. If you need a school instrument and did not check one out over the summer, give me a call and we’ll get one checked out to you. About a third of the music for the show is written, it will be posted on the band website when it is complete. Start getting ready to get up early and be outside.
We will also be doing uniform checkout during summer step-off. Some of you still have your uniforms from last year. Bring them back Monday, cleaned. If they still fit, we’ll check them back out to you, but you must bring it in. Seniors will check out uniforms on Monday, Juniors on Tuesday, Sophomores on Wednesday, and Freshmen on Friday. Checkout will be after the conclusion of the rehearsal.
I do not yet have confirmation on all contest dates, but will have a schedule ready for you as soon as I do. You may always check for schedule updates on the band website. I’ve also set up a twitter account for the band you can follow to get updates as well.
If you have not already grabbed some tickets, there are still some available for Wicked. Wicked is the musical upon which this year’s show is based and it will be in Tulsa July 15 through August 9. You can find tickets at www.tulsapac.com.
