This will go home tomorrow with the students, but wanted to go ahead and get the info out there.

I’m so proud of our first two performances. Let’s keep up the work and improve each week. I just received the schedule for the Oologah contest, so here’s our itinerary.

  • 9:15 Meet and Load
  • 9:45 Depart VHS
  • 11:00 Arrive at OHS
  • 11:49 Warmup
  • 12:19 Travel to Stadium
  • 12:24 Performance
  • 1:00 Lunch at the Bus
  • 4:15 Prelims Awards
  • 6:00 Finals Begin
  • 9:00 Finals Awards

Students will need to bring money for dinner in case we make finals. If we do make finals, we will be home around 10:30 PM. If we do not make finals, we will be home around 6:30 PM. As soon as we know, information will be posted on the band website. You can also follow our location as we travel on the band website. There will be a map showing where we are as we travel.

Next Friday is our first away game. We will be traveling to Wagoner. We will load at 4:30 and depart at 5:00 PM. Remember this means you are late if you are not there by 4:30. We should be home between 11 and 11:30, but the nature of a football game makes this unpredictable.

We still have several spots where we need volunteers but our most pressing needs are these two trips. At a minimum, we need someone willing to drive the school suburban pulling our equipment trailer. I would also love to have a couple of chaperones on the bus with us. An updated list of our volunteer needs is always available at www.vinitaband.org/volunteer/

Here’s a quick list of what we still need:

  • September 16: 1 Concession Worker
  • September 23: 1 Suburban/Trailer Driver and 3 Chaperones
  • September 24: 1 Suburban/Trailer Driver and 3 Chaperones
  • September 30: 1 Chaperone
  • October 1: 3 Chaperones
  • October 7: 4 Concession Workers
  • October 15: 1 Suburban/Trailer Driver and 3 Chaperones
  • October 18: 1 Suburban/Trailer Driver and 2 Chaperones
  • October 20: 1 Suburban/Trailer Driver and 3 Chaperones
  • October 28: 5 Concession Workers
  • November 4: 1 Suburban/Trailer Driver and 3 Chaperones

Our drum heads, sticks and bass drum stands are in. Any percussionists want to come up to the bandroom tomorrow (Jul 22) say around 2:00 PM to get the line set up?

New bibbers should be in next week!

Auditions for the duet parts on Don’t Stop Believin’ Will be on either August 8 or August 9. Learn both parts if you are interested (there isn’t that much difference). Focus on getting a big sound without loosing control. It has to get up to the press box, but still has to sound good. I’ll consider amplification if a flute or clarinet wins one of the parts.
